There, they worked in a local grocery store, learning the trade and supplying customers with whatever they wanted. The hardworking brothers became known for their luxury goods, including old whiskies. Eventually, the pair began blending their own whisky in their cellar to create a smoother drop for their discerning customers. In 1843, James received his first Royal Warrant from Queen Victoria – and the Chivas Regal name became synonymous with royalty. In 1909, Chivas created a 25-year-old blend that would become the world’s first luxury whisky. Throughout the 20th century, anyone who was anyone in high society had a glass of Chivas in hand, in the UK and in the glamorous world of New York. Not even Prohibition in 1920 could stop Chivas’ reign. Bars may have shut down – but in 1938, Chivas returned with the 12-year-old blend that’s known and loved today. The home of Chivas Regal, the Strathisla Distillery, is the oldest operating distillery in the Scottish Highlands. The Strathisla single malt whisky is present in every bottle of Chivas Regal.
