12 January 2022 National News GREEN PEARS - The last of the imports, once they are sold we will be waiting for local pears to start in the next couple of weeks. LEMONS - A perfect storm with shortages of local fruit, currently nothing around. Imports out of the USA are very inconsistent with ships coming every second week assuming they aren't delayed. There may be periods where we have no lemons at all. Imports & Shipping As we've become accustom to over the last 18 months freight remains a huge challenge with reduced sailings into NZ which are almost certainty delayed, when it does eventually arrive. We are doing our best to mitigate any shortages on the likes of grapes and citrus but the situation is fluid so it is possible there will be some impacts on supply. NZ MELONS - We are now into full domestic supply of rock melons, honeydew melons and watermelons with great medium sized fruit coming through. PASSIONFRUIT - Local season will start late January with limited supply for the first couple of weeks while volume builds. SWEETCORN - Great volume in the market with prices easing. End of Season ASPARAGUS - Season has finished. GRANNY SMITHS - Season is finishing up with all remaining fruit in the market. KIWIFRUIT - Season has finished on Gold with some pockets of Green still in the market. Italian imports will supplement supply until we see new season fruit late Feb/early March.
